Buck Gully is a natural, coastal canyon in Newport Beach, Ca. Surrounding the canyon is single-family residences, roadways, and the famous Pelican Golf Course. Buck Gullyencompasses about 1200 acres and includes portions of San Joaquin foothills. The reserve is open daily from dawn and until dusk and offers docent-led programs.
Next Stop is…Upper Newport Bay
Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve is a 752-acre property consisting of salt marsh, mudflat, and marine habitats. There is a 5.2-mile loop that can be enjoyed by all skill levels. Walk along the river, enjoy the birds and wildlife that call this beautiful reserve home. Mudflats in the area provide a great loafing area for migrating shorebirds and waterfowl. Nearby sheltered waters provide foraging, spawning and nursery habitat for marine fish.
Moving Right Along…Deer Canyon Loop
Deer Canyon Loop Trail is a moderate 6.9-mile loop trail located near Newport Beach, CA., near Crystal Cove State Park. Here you will find beautiful wildflowers in the Spring and stunning views all year long. The trails are kept in great condition. Great for hikers, runners, and bikers alike. There is very little shade along the trail, so bring extra water and stay hydrated.
Stop and Enjoy the Scenic Views
If you are up to the challenge, be sure to hike Crystal Peak Park Loop in Newport Beach and is part of the Cyrstal Cove State Park. The loop is approximately 6.8 miles long and offers stunning views of the mountains and ocean along the way. Runners, horses, and mountain biking primarily use the trail.
