What To Do in Newport Beach, CA
If you are new to Southern California as I am, you might feel like the adventures that await are countless. California has so much to do and to see, and endless beauty all around. One of my favorite places to go to is Newport Beach, mainly because it is only an hour away from me here in Riverside, CA. When you are listening to your favorite jams, that barely feels like a drive. You can enjoy a day of surfing, boogie boarding, splashing in the sun, hiking, shopping, spa treatments, cruising on your bike, shoot, even take a cruise on a ship, whale watching, golf, and enjoy some or all the tasty treats that you are surrounded by. You will not go bored or hungry.
It all just really depends on what you fancy. As for myself and my family, we enjoy window shopping, and eating out! We love trying out new places, and it's not only about the food but just the feeling of being in a new spot, a new city. Even though we are an hour away from home, it feels like we are on a mini vacation get-a-way. And if we stay too late and are too tired to drive, we have options in staying at a nice hotel overlooking the ocean.
Places to Stay
Ideally, the first thing you want to do is search for a hotel. If you enjoy golfing and hillsides or appreciate gorgeous views, The Resort at Pelican Hill would be just lovely. It is breathtaking. The pool itself is out of a fantasy. Inside each Bungalow, relax by a private fireplace, terrace, and ocean views with plenty to share.
Obviously, at the Pelican there’s a price to pay for all the perks, so if you are looking for something just as extravagant but a lot more economical, check out the Fashion Island Hotel.
This hotel is a 20-story building that overlooks the Pacific Ocean and nearby Islands like Lido, Catalina, and Balboa. The Island is located above the Pacific Coast Highway between MacArthur Blvd and Jamboree Rd Beach right across the Hotel. Fashion Island is perfect for days you want to stroll outdoors while window shopping. With a variety of shops and boutiques totaling 150 plus restaurants and coffee shops, you will enjoy your day out. If you have little ones you would like to entertain, the Irvine Spectrum Center will fascinate them with all the neon lights, colossal Ferris wheel, and the carousel ride. You can also find the Pretend City Museum only 20 minutes away from you. That would be something neat to check out on your way out.
Don’t want to stay in a hotel, no problem. Beach houses make a great get-away. But you must book early, or you will miss out. Check out some great rentals offered by Burr White Realty. They provide beautiful homes; some are ocean-front. Who doesn’t love waking up to the waves crashing on the shore?
Dining Out
On to my favorite part of vacationing… Dining out. I mean who doesn’t like trying out new places. You will find as hungry as you are, you still won’t be able to decide what you want to eat. Juggling options in Newport Beach, such as Steak, Seafood, Italian, American, Mexican, the possibilities are galore. You’ll need to extend your vacation to cover all the places you’ll want to try. One of my absolute favorite places to go to is Ruby’s Diner. This place is a cute 1950s themed Diner, but there is nothing ordinary about the food. Go with an empty belly as the portions are huge and fulfilling. My personal favorite is the Cobb burger with bacon, bleu cheese, and fresh avocado paired with a cold, thick chocolate chip milkshake. And do not fret, if you are vegan or vegetarian, they have a wide selection on the menu for you as well!
Looking for something a bit fancier, you have options like Fleming’s Steak House, for a great steak dinner. Craving a fantastic Seafood dinner, check out The Cannery Newport Beach. Want a bit more casual but just as tasty as those expensive places, try Mama D’s Italian Kitchen, you won’t be disappointed.
The Nightlife
After all that food, you surely need to take a walk down to the beach and make some room for dessert. If you’re like me, you want to exercise by bar hopping, cruising the streets, observing the nightlife, listening to music, and busting out a move or two. And to end the night cuddle up next to a random fire pit near the shoreline. Newport nightlife offers an array of bars and clubs to end with a nightcap. Depending on your mood, Time Nightclub is an upbeat nightspot with luxurious décor, DJ’s, bottle service, and an upscale-casual dress code. Looking for where the locals hang out, then you must check out Beach Ball. Beach Ball is a local favorite serving up potent drinks, jukebox tunes, and even serving Bloody Mary’s at 6 am!
You must check out some of these places this upcoming spring and summer. Make 2019 all about new experiences and fun. Get out there and enjoy Newport Beach! You will be so glad you did.
